Duck Duck Go?

April 24th, 2012 : · 2 Comments ·

I’m guessing that most of you have never heard of DuckDuckgo.com. And really why would you?

Duck Duck Go is a search engine. It is clearly a second tier search engine, and by that I don’t mean the quality of it’s results are second tier, I just mean that the number of people using it compared to the big boys is miniscule. Having said that, it is a search engine you should certainly give a look to.

I’ve been using it for several months now and it has pretty much become my go to search engine for regular search. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the big boys such as images, mail etc.. It’s search done well with a really nice clean interface. And that’s it.

Let’s be real. Most people use a certain search engine, whether it be Google, Bing or Yahoo, more out of habit than anything else.

Duck Duck Go reminds me a lot of what Google was like in the early days.

Duck Duck Go features a very clean interface, very few ads. Absolute privacy. They don’t track anything about you. Make sure you read their privacy policy. And the results… they are damn good.

If you’re a Firefox user, they have a plugin that adds Duck Duck Go to the search bar. There really are choices in the search world. And many are better than you might think. Give them a look.

I checked it out and like it. Seems to give more revelant results to the search term. Think I will switch to it for my personal use.

    Thanks for sharing.

I waffled back and forth between Google and duckduckgo for a bit while. What finally pushed me permanently to DDG (other than the lack of tracking) was that i found out that DDG supports tons of BANG commands similar to what I was using with yubnub.org (only much better). Se the BANG commands here: https://duckduckgo.com/bang.html
